Amazon Presents a Pedophile’s Guide to Love and Pleasure

There simply are not enough hours in the day to smack down all the pedo material on Wikiepdia, Facebook and now Amazon. For once the mainstream media scooped this blog by reporting on a recently listed self-published e-book entitled The Pedophile's Guide to Love and Pleasure: a Child-lover's Code of Conduct by "I-am-not-a-pedophile" author Philip R. Greaves II. There's lots to digest in this story which MSNBC has been following closely. I'm not sure where the story first originated, but needless to say it has spread quickly around the globe. According to this excellent story on MSNBC: The book, The Pedophile's Guide to Love and Pleasure: a ...

See no evil . . .

A report issued yesterday by attorneys hired by the Lower Merion School District found that the collection of images stemmed not from an effort to spy on students but from "the district's failure to implement policies, procedures and recordkeeping requirements and the overzealous and questionable use of technology by IS personnel without any apparent regard for privacy considerations or sufficient consultation with administrators." The report also criticized leaders and several members of the IS department as "not forthcoming with the Board, administrators and students about what TheftTrack could do and how they used it," citing incidents demonstra...

Finally the truth about Lower Merion's use of remote monitoring software on student laptops: On Monday, the District's lawyer admitted that the school system captured 56,000 images of students, although thankfully "none of the images appeared to be salacious or inappropriate." Back in February, the District's website declared that they only activated the software to locate lost, stolen or missing laptops: "The district has not used the tracking feature or webcam for any other purpose or in any other manner whatsoever," the Web site said. Conclusion: there must be an awfully lot of missing laptops in the richest school district in Pennsylvania and one ...

Unlike the Harvard Law School Berkman Center cyber white wash from earlier this year, a recent American Academy of Pediatrics scientific study found that a history of childhood abuse and a provocative online identity increase the risk of Internet exploitation for girls. The the study's objective was to determine the risk factors for Internet-initiated victimization of female adolescents. The researchers found that abused girls were significantly more likely to have experienced online sexual advances and to have met someone offline. Having been abused and choosing a provocative avatar were significantly and independently associated with online sexual ...

Cyber Conflict of Interest – Harvard Law School’s Berkman Center Calls Online Threats to Children Overblown

At first glance, the news in today's New York Times that "the Internet may not be such a dangerous place for children after all" will give many a sense of relief. Look closer, however, and you'll quickly discover that cyber-industry heavyweights have co-opted the Berkman Center for Internet & Society at Harvard Law School. By selling itself to the industry it is allegedly investigating, the Berkman Center has become both a shrill and a shield for the powerful well-funded online establishment. First the "news." According to the NYT: A task force created by 49 state attorneys general to look into the problem of sexual solicitation of children online ...
